Traditionally, ballet dancers wore long dresses which barely showed their ankles. However, times have thankfully changed and a shorter girls’ tutu is now worn because it is ideal for showing off the fancy foot and legwork involved in ballet dancing.
A tutu skirt can also help young ballet dancers to perfect their footwork. As the skirt juts out it prevents the girl from seeing her feet, and stops her from looking down at her feet as she’s dancing. Instead, she’ll learn to watch herself in the mirror and keep her head help up properly while she dances, creating better lines and accuracy in her moves.
